“agape”
meaning: the highest form of love, it transcends and persists regardless of circumstance. Agape is selfless and passionately committed to the well being of others.
Thank you, Lilly O.- the biggest supporter!
February 2024, my professor Josie Iselin introduced a nature research base camp in the presidio that caught my interest.
and the journey began…
have you been to the field station?
It’s an immersive environmental research park and curiosity base camp located in San Francisco's Presidio. in here scientists and students conduct ecological studies, habitat restoration, and biodiversity monitoring to support the conservation of natural resources in the park. visitors are able explore and learn through all senses, form deeper connection with each other, and get fueled up with excitement to embark on their exploration of the park.
inspiration was found
current 2D trail and adventure maps in the field station offer basic overviews of trail routes and points of interest, but they often fail to convey the nuanced topography and terrain features that define the Presidio’s trails.
As a result, visitors may struggle to fully grasp the complexities of the trail system and appreciate the diverse ecological environments that they traverse.
Agape’s features
topography
a dem (digital elevation map) of the park, providing visitors with a more detailed and immersive understanding of Presidio terrains.
trails
guides visitors of the Field station on their adventures on the park’s trails.
connection
a tool to help visitors and park guides communicate their magical stories of the park.
data processing
DEM retrieved from Google map and USGS, scaling and processing in 3D modeling softwares to prepare for CNC milling operation.
Thank you, prof. Linn and Richard!
prototyping
3d printed a testing section with the Coastal trail in PLA plastic.
Right after the map entered the Field station, curiosity and excitement filled up the room!
Our awesome park guide Doug French went straight to utilizing the map and shared many magical stories of the park.
Thanks Doug for creating such a wholesome moment!
Thank you, for all the supports since day 1!
